Restorative Justice School Project

Project Overview:
Restorative Justice School Project (St. Louis, MISSOURI) in response to violence in the St. Louis Public Schools, is teaching students to communicate their needs in a non-violent and effective manner. This is done through the use of circles where the victim has the opportunity to have a voice and the offender has an opportunity to repair the harm that was done.

Goals for 2010:

• 100% of currently enrolled 6th grade students and students under the supervision of the juvenile/family court at Long Middle School will participate in the Restorative Justice program.

• 100% of currently enrolled 6th grade students and students under the supervision of the juvenile/family court at Long Middle School will receive the Restorative Justice Prevention Curricula.

• 95% of 6th grade teachers will report using at least one peace circle a week with their students through the self-report evaluation form.

• Reduction in re-offending student incidents by 30%.

• Out of school suspensions will reduce by 30%.
