Project Overview:
Project Lakota (Ogala, SD, USA) is located on the Pine Ridge Reservation, which is home to two of the poorest counties in the United States. One of the biggest social problems on the reservation is a lack of adequate housing for Native American families. Project Lakota addresses this issue by engaging Lakota youth in building and repairing homes for needy families. Project Lakota also sponsors a quilting cooperative, which gives community members the opportunity to create traditional Native American quilts and sell them as an income-generating activity.
