Dandora Women's Forum

Project Coordinator:
Aida Ogot

Project Overview:

Dandora Women's Forum (Dandora, KENYA) became an IPM partner in 2006.  Dandora Women's Forum aims to coordinate activities of over 300 poor and unemployed urban women in Dandora, KENYA.  The group provides technical assistance to nascent as well as ongoing projects.  Women running projects in their initial stages are encouraged not to give up when they interact with other women who have experienced similar challenges.  The proceeds are used to care for members' families and HIV orphans in the community.

In addition to the income generating activities, Dandora Women's Forum promotes gender equality through trainings and legal counseling.  The women also receive education about health issues including the transmission of HIV/AIDS

Community Impact:

But during 2007, she was able to educate and feed her children with the income earned through the Dandora Women's Forum. Unfortunately, she was set back by the post-election violence in early 2008, but hopes to regain her financial independence with continued involvement in the Forum.
