Womens' Community Project

Project Overview:

Women’s Community Project (Ibague, COLOMBIA) works with the mothers of the children of IPM’s other Colombia-based project, Ninos Trabajadores.  The project works to provide economic opportunities through cooperative activities for the mothers to earn sustainable income, and be able to better provide for their families.  Some of the trainings the women have received include food processing techniques for marketplace sales, and are considering creating a community kitchen, utilizing the fresh fruits and vegetables of the marketplace and providing nutritional food for sale, providing them with income.

Recent Accomplishments:

• Raising awareness of the importance of organizing and solidarity.

• Reflecting on the reality of their lives as women and finding alternatives that allow them to protect themselves in a better way.

 • Developing workshops on formation and training.

Goals for 2010:
In 2008, the Project will try to consolidate the work of the organization, to identify the common needs and construct alternatives that permit them to improve their quality of life.

IPM Funding Goal for 2010:
$2,500

Community Impact:
Angela, a 35 year old woman, works very hard to provide for her four children all their necessities. She sees in these meetings a possibility to join together and has hope that organizing the women can advance new goals and strengthen a purpose that allows them to have a much greater quality of life for them, as women, and for their children.
