Back to School
Project Coordinator:
Ms. Huiqui Chen, Chuzhou Education Department in Anhui Province
Project Overview:
Back to School (Anhui Province, CHINA) allows children from poor families in rural China to attend primary school, part of a nationwide effort coordinated by China’s Department of Education to educate all elementary aged children. IPM funding supports at least 30 students each year, providing their families with a $100 stipend. These funds help cover the cost of shoes, school supplies, transportation to and from school, and also helps replace the income a working child would bring to the family.

Community Impact:
"My name is Lu Wang. I am in the 5th grade at Quanwushan Elementary. In the past year, I studied hard, listened carefully to teachers, and finished my homework on time. I am little bit timid so sometimes I hesitate to answer teacher’s questions in the class since I am afraid of giving a wrong answer. In last finals, I only got 70% on my two exams, (Chinese and Math), and I know that I didn’t do them well. Certainly, I will study even harder. Teachers and classmates care about me and help me with my homework sometimes. All my family depends on my Grandma picking some worthy things to sell from garbage. We planted crops on a piece of land so that we have food, and sometime we can sell some. My Grandma and Grandpa are not in good health, and sometimes they need money to buy medicine. I help to do some housework after I finish my homework, such as to feed our two dozen chickens. Now I don’t have pay for tuition and books. I thank you, and my Grandma always tells people she meets that it was you who support me, otherwise, I have no way to come back to school. I am determined to study hard, and when I grow up I will help those who couldn’t come to school to study because of poverty, as you did to me. Thank you so much. -Lu Wang"
